About the Recipe

This is the food you make when you’re missing home — not just a place, but a time, a feeling, a person. The yam breaks apart gently, the oil shimmers like memory, and the vegetables remind you that even bitterness can be beautiful when it’s balanced. It’s not just a meal. It’s remembering.

  • Slices of yam, Plantains or Cocoyams

  • Palm oil

  • Chopped spinach or ugu

  • Onion (1 small)

  • Crayfish (optional)

  • Pepper (blended or dry)

  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  • Peel and boil yam with salt until soft.

  • In a pan, heat palm oil and sauté onions till fragrant.

  • Add pepper, seasoning, and stir.

  • Mix in crayfish and spinach.

  • Let simmer on low heat for 3 minutes.

  • Serve beside soft yam slices.
